Combatting thefts in Reykjavik

Iceland has been always a safe place. Unfortunately lately those who live in Iceland don’t feel that way. During the COVID pandemic thefts became very frequent. They steal from many shops and individuals, and our 2 shops are suffering from it too.

We and our neighbors report to police and follow the protocols, but the thefts don’t stop. We also wrote to the chiefs of police and members of the Parliament. Thankfully public shows interest in the problem- newspapers raise awareness, radio shows invite Heads of unions to speak on the problem.  Please, follow the link for Frettabladid article: Lögregla aðhafist lítið sem ekkert vegna þjófnaðar í verslunum

By this public message we would like to announce:

We do everything possible to prevent the thefts. Please, be aware that we always find identities of the thieves because we have extra sensitive security cameras and advanced security system- you are informed about this by special signs at the entrance.

We introduced a system of fines- see details below.

If you steal anything from our shops for the total amount (in retail prices) of less than 100.000 ISK we consider that you are buying our service of replacing the product, calling police, making a report , following up on the case and team building activities to recover the team spirit for the good service that we always provide to our customers. The cost of this service is 100.000 ISK including VAT- we will provide the invoice upon request.
